Mikah Hughes with her cat Sir Oreo Puff

Hello! I’m Mikah Hughes, an instructional designer who lives in Southern Indiana. I received my B.S. in Psychology from Oakland City University and my M.S. Ed. in Instructional Systems Technology from Indiana University. I have held positions as an Instructional Designer for roughly the past 13 years. Prior to that, I worked as an Educational Specialist for a TRIO Educational Talent Search Program and as a Caseworker. I am currently an Educational Psychology doctoral candidate at the University of Kentucky where I also earned a Distance Education Graduate Certificate. My research interests revolve around student and faculty motivations in distance education courses and professional development opportunities.

As an instructional designer, I continuously push myself to design learning activities in meaningful and engaging way. I aim to make this content accessible to all learners in accordance with WCAG 2.3, ADA, and Quality Matters standards. It is extremely important to me that learning be accessible and relevant to all learners. Through my work in Educational Psychology, I have learned the importance of culturally sensitive assessments and authentic problem-based learning. In addition to accessibility, I believe that relevant and authentic assessments are also extremely important for diverse learners. I always try to bring these core values to any job that I approach.
